Summary

The purpose of this Chair is to develop the knowledge and capabilities needed to integrate and optimize value-creation networks in the forest products industry by exploiting the potential of decision-making, information and communication technologies, and e-business models. One of the Chair's objectives is to train highly qualified personnel in the fields of e-business and logistics chain management in the forest industry in order to contribute to the advancement of businesses operating in the forest products industry and to share research results with the industry and the scientific community.

The research done by this Chair has contributed to many improvements in the business practices and planning tools used by this industry. The results have been demonstrated through simulations and case studies based on the industry and have enabled researchers to predict the economic impacts of adopting better practices and better tools. All of the Chair's business partners firmly believe that new technologies and new business practices are required to improve the agility of their logistics chain.

Chairholder Sophie D'Amours is a full professor in the Université Laval's department of mechanical engineering and also holds a Canada Research Chair on Operational Planning and Control of Value Creation Networks. D'Amours teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in industrial engineering and has supervised more than 30 students at both levels. She has published over 100 scientific contributions with colleagues and researchers.
