Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific Cooperation between the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and The Academy of Finland

Recognizing the mutual benefits to be derived from increased mobility and productive exchange and collaboration between the scientist and engineers of their countries, the Academy of Finland and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) have reached an understanding as follows:

1. The two parties will encourage established researchers in the natural sciences and engineering disciplines to engage in productive exchange and collaboration with their colleagues in the other country.

  • Each party agrees to publicize mechanisms of support for scientific collaboration with the other country;
  • Each party will facilitate international exchange by providing a focal point for information on application procedures, and by encouraging scientists to establish prior contact with a host researcher in the other country to ensure that joint research projects are of mutual interest and benefit.

2. Each party will inform the other of grants, fellowships or other awards provided to, or of particular benefit to scientists of the other country.

3. Both parties accept the publication of scientific and technical information of a non-proprietary nature, derived from research collaborations, without restrictions.

4. This Memorandum of Understanding is based on equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit and implies no financial commitment from the other party.

5. The Memorandum of Understanding will come into effect upon signature and will continue to be valid until either party notifies the other of its intention to change or to terminate the Memorandum.
