1. Aside from NSERC, what other scholarship programs are available to support my research training at a foreign institution?

Canadian students and fellows may be eligible for a number of programs to support their research training at a foreign institution. Information about these opportunities is available at the following Web sites:

1. Does NSERC conduct research?

NSERC funds research and training at eligible Canadian universities and colleges. It does not conduct research, nor does it have research facilities.

2. Are foreign students/fellows eligible to apply to NSERC programs?

International postgraduate students and fellows registered at a Canadian university, or those interested in pursuing their studies or research training at a Canadian organization, are eligible for the following programs:

• Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program
• Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships Program
• NSERC Industrial Postgraduate Scholarships
• Industrial Research and Development Internships
• Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories
• Human Frontier Science Program Fellowships

3. I want to identify possible supervisors for my research at a Canadian university. Where can I find information about Canadian researchers and their activities?

These searchable databases can help identify potential supervisors in Canada:

• Canada Research Chairs—This database of over 1,800 profiles of Canada Research Chairs will help those looking for research leaders in the natural sciences, engineering, health, the social sciences or the humanities.  View database
• NSERC Chairholders Database—This database is designed to connect researchers and students with some of Canada’s leading scientists and engineers. Each profile includes a summary of the chairholders’ activities, relevant key words, partnering organizations and contact information. View database
• NSERC Awards Search Engine—This database lists all grants and scholarships awarded by NSERC since 1991. Searches can be conducted using research subject, key words, institution, etc. Please note that this database does not contain researchers contact information; however, it does identify their institution of affiliation at the time of the award.  View database
