Celebrating Canada’s Top Natural Sciences and Engineering Researchers

Some of Canada’s top researchers were celebrated on Parliament Hill and at an official ceremony at Rideau Hall for their outstanding contributions in the fields of natural sciences and engineering. The ceremony was hosted by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. He was joined by the Honourable Ed Holder, Minister of State (Science and Technology) and Dr. B. Mario Pinto, President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Celebrating Strategy for Partnerships and Innovation

Launched five years ago, the NSERC Strategy for Partnerships and Innovation has connected more businesses than ever to researchers at universities and colleges across Canada. NSERC President, Dr. B. Mario Pinto celebrated this innovation success with business and research leaders gathered at six events across Canada organized by the NSERC regional offices.

Getting “Function” Right: Why Genomics Needs Philosophy - NSERC-RCI Lecture with Dr. W. Ford Doolittle

Dr. Doolittle, professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University and winner of the 2014 NSERC Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal presented a public talk on how recent claims that there is no “junk” in the human genome have opened up new debate about the very nature of biology.

On November 25, 2014, NSERC announced that L’Oréal Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, will offer one $5,000 supplement to a woman scientist or engineer involved in promising research projects who has been awarded an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship.
