As Chief Executive Officer of Science Alberta Foundation, Arlene Ponting has headed up the creation of a high-performance organization that has exponentially increased the number of people reached with creative, innovative and widely distributed programs in science and technology. These programs encourage young people to enter careers in science and engineering and foster a scientifically literate citizenry.
Dr. Ponting has a BSc (Honours) in Pharmacy and a PhD in Educational Administration from the University of Alberta. She received the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005 in recognition of outstanding service to the people and the province of Alberta and was selected by Alberta Venture magazine as one of the top fifty influential people in Alberta in 2008. In 2009, and again in 2010, Dr. Ponting was chosen as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 by the Women’s Executive Network. Dr. Ponting has served on the Board of Trustees of the Alberta Ingenuity Fund.
Dr. Ponting is a member of NSERC’s Executive Committee and its Committee on Research Integrity.
