Christian Leuprecht


Dr. Christian Leuprecht (Hon. BA; DEA; MA, MA, PhD Queen’s University) is Professor of Political Science at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC) and Senior Fellow at the Macdonald Laurier Institute. He has served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Deputy Head of the Department of Political Science and Economics at RMCC. Dr. Leuprecht is cross-appointed to the Department of Political Studies and the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University, where he is a fellow of the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations and the Queen’s Centre for International and Defence Policy; he is also a research affiliate at the Observatoire sur la radicalisation et l’extrémisme violent, the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur les relations internationales du Canada et du Québec, and the Université de Montréal’s International Centre for Comparative Criminology.

Dr. Leuprecht is an expert on security and defence, political demography, and comparative federalism and multi-level governance. He is president of the International Sociological Association’s Research Committee on Armed Forces and Conflict Resolution and a United Nations Security Structure Expert. His award-winning publications have appeared in English, German, French and Spanish.

Dr. Leuprecht is the recipient of the RMCC Commandant’s Commendation for Excellence in Service. His editorials appear regularly in Canada’s national newspapers, and he is a frequent commentator in domestic and international media.

Dr. Leuprecht is a member of NSERC’s Executive Committee and chairs its Committee on Discovery Research (CDR).
