Gilbert Drouin, a renowned researcher in biomechanics and rehabilitation, was CEO of Valorisation—Recherche Québec from 1999 to 2006. Previously, he had been Vice-President, Technology Development, at Orthofab and the Director of Research and Graduate Studies at École Polytechnique. A graduate in mechanical engineering from École Polytecnique, he received his master’s from Cornell University in mechanical engineering and his PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia.
Dr. Drouin has served as a member of several NSERC committees, including the E. W. R. Steacie Memorial Fellowships Selection Committee, the Gerhard-Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering Committee and the former Committee on Research Grants (currently known as the Committee on Grants and Scholarships). He has also been group chair for several of NSERC Council’s engineering grant selection committees. Mr. Drouin served on NSERC Council from June 1995 to August 2004 and served on the Executive Committee of NSERC Council from June 1997 to April 2003.
He has been appointed Chair of the Committee on Research Partnerships Program and has chaired many committees for the evaluation of projects submitted to the Canada Foundation for Innovation.
