Good Practices

Listed below are examples of institutional policies governing the ethics review of research involving humans that the Granting Agencies found to be good overall. Please note that this is an evolutionary process. Since the initial review and listing by the Agencies in 1999-2000, the policies may have been revised internally by the respective institution(s). This initial selection of good practices may be updated as the Agencies continue to receive institutional ethics policies.

There are many other good policies, and most of them are available on university Web sites. We encourage you to explore the above and other Web sites to compare approaches to particular issues, such as the review of undergraduate research projects, or processes for obtaining free and informed consent. You may also wish to obtain a greater sample of policies developed by institutions similar in size to your own, or by institutions that promote research in similar areas.
