Chairs and Faculty Support Overview
Chairs for Women in Science and Engineering Program
The Chairs for Women in Science and Engineering (CWSE) Program is regional—with one Chair for each of the Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Prairie and British Columbia Regions. The goal of this program is to increase the participation of women in science and engineering and to provide role models for women considering careers in these fields.
Chairs in Design Engineering
Chairs in Design Engineering (CDE) aim to improve the level and quality of design engineering activity within Canadian universities.
Industrial Research Chairs
Industrial Research Chairs (IRC) are prestigious appointments, intended to assist universities in building on existing strengths to achieve the critical mass required for a major research endeavour in science and engineering of interest to industry; and/or assist in the development of research efforts in fields that have not yet been developed in Canadian universities but for which there is an important industrial need.
Industrial Research Chairs for Colleges Grants
These grants support the establishment of applied research leaders and promote their role as catalysts in the advancement of business-focused applied research programs at colleges. The result will be the development of new, or the significant enhancement of existing, applied research capacity in areas that meet local or regional socio-economic needs.
Northern Research Chairs Program
The Northern Research Chairs Program (NRCP) aims to augment and promote Canadian universities’ northern research and training in the natural sciences and engineering.
University Faculty Awards Program
The goal of the University Faculty Awards (UFA) Program is to enhance the recruitment, retention and early career progression of women and Aboriginal people in tenure-track faculty positions in the natural sciences and engineering in Canadian universities, by providing opportunities for them to establish a strong research record.
