The information and types of awards and fellowships outlined below are relevant only to those who have already obtained their doctorate, or who will obtain it within the next year.

Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program aims to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally, to develop their leadership potential and to position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow, positively contributing to Canada’s economic, social and research-based growth through a research-intensive career.
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has established the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan. A limited number of promising early career researchers are given the opportunity to conduct research in Japanese institutions and in designated research institutions and laboratories. NSERC is responsible for recommending Canadian nominees for JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships.
NSERC Indigenous Student Ambassadors
The NSERC Indigenous Student Ambassadors (NISA) grant aims to engage Indigenous students and fellows in promoting interest and participation in natural sciences and engineering by visiting Indigenous communities and schools in Canada.
Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF) program provides support to a core of the most promising researchers at a pivotal time in their careers. The fellowships are intended to secure a supply of highly qualified Canadians with leading-edge scientific and research skills for Canadian industry, government and academic institutions.

Human Frontier Science Program
The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) is an international program of research support, funding leading-edge research on the complex mechanisms of living organisms. Research is funded at all levels of biological complexity from biomolecules to the interactions between organisms, crossing disciplinary boundaries and embracing risk.
