Canadian L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science Postgraduate Scholarship Supplements
This supplement program is available to women who have been awarded a PGS, a CGS or a Vanier CGS and are entering or are currently enrolled in a doctoral program.

What is the purpose of the supplement?
Created in 1998, the international L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science program (
http://www.forwomeninscience.com) aims to improve the position of women in science by recognizing outstanding women researchers who have contributed to scientific progress, and young women scientists engaged in exemplary and promising projects.
As an extension of this program, L'Oréal Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, will offer two postgraduate scholarship supplements to young Canadian women scientists involved in promising research projects.
In addition, the objective is to create a network of women who will act as role models to younger generations within the framework of a Canadian mentorship program for girls in science developed by L'Oréal Canada.
Are you eligible to hold a supplement?
To be eligible to compete for this supplement you must be entering or currently enrolled in a doctoral program and will be or are involved in a research project in the life sciences field.
You must also be willing to dedicate three days of the year in which you hold the award to the mentorship program described above. In addition, you must obtain the support of your supervisor.
How do you apply?
To be considered for this supplement you must submit the following no later than May 1 of the year in which you are awarded your PGS or CGS:
- a copy of your Notification of Award document from NSERC;
- a copy of your successful scholarship application (Form 200);
- a one- to two-page résumé describing your research project, career goals and academic and extracurricular activities that supports your desire to share your knowledge and research;
- a half-page résumé of your research project as you would describe it to a young audience in a mentoring session (ages 8 to 12); and
- a statement of endorsement from your supervisor describing why you are suitable for this supplement and giving testimony as to your penchant for teaching and sharing knowledge.
Only complete applications will be reviewed.
What kind of support does this supplement provide?
Every year, two supplements will be awarded to women students entering or currently enrolled in a doctoral program. Priority will be given to candidates who, through their experience, have demonstrated their willingness and aptitudes for sharing their passion for science.
Value of supplement
If your application is selected, you will receive $5,000 for one year in addition to your NSERC PGS or CGS.
Review procedures
A committee comprised of members from the Canadian scientific community will be established to review all applications. Applications will be adjudicated based on their relevance to the Girls Mentorship Program's themes and goals.
Notification of decision
The committee will select and contact the successful applicants.
Payment
L'Oréal Canada will issue payment directly to the successful applicants.
