Canadian Poultry Research Council postgraduate scholarship

This scholarship is available to postgraduate students conducting or planning to conduct research on poultry at a Canadian institution who have been awarded a Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS), a Postgraduate Scholarship – Doctoral (PGS D) or—for Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada only—a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS).

Objective

The purpose of the Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC) postgraduate scholarship is to:

  • encourage and support graduate students to carry out research in an aspect of poultry science
  • build Canada’s intellectual capacity in poultry science
  • promote graduate research in poultry science at Canadian institutions

Eligibility

At the time of your application for this scholarship, you must be or plan to be a postgraduate student at a Canadian institution conducting or planning to conduct research on poultry.

Scholarship value

The CPRC will award a one-year scholarship of $5,000 and will offer it annually.

Application procedures

To be considered for this scholarship, you must submit the following documents to the CPRC as indicated in the CPRC’s annual call for applications: 

  • A completed CPRC Postgraduate Scholarship application form
  • Up-to-date transcripts
  • A two-page (12-point font) résumé describing your career goals and academic and extracurricular activities that support your interests in poultry research
  • A statement of endorsement from your research supervisor describing why you are particularly suitable for this award
  • The Outline of Proposed Research attachment from your CGS, PGS D or Vanier CGS application (form 201)
  • The Contributions and Statements attachment from your CGS, PGS D or Vanier CGS application (form 201)

Scientists are responsible for notifying their postgraduate students of the call for applications.

Selection process

Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Relevance of your research program to industry priorities
  • Your qualifications, such as academic excellence, demonstrated and potential research ability, industry knowledge and experience, and professional and extracurricular activities
  • Your potential to impact the poultry industry

Notification of results

The CPRC will inform all those who applied whether they were successful or not.

Payment

The payment will be made directly to you in one instalment upon confirmation of the commencement date of your program of study.
