Chair program
Industrial Research Chairs program
Role
Associate Chairholder since 2006
Summary
The main goal of the Chair program is to investigate wireless communication networks in order to achieve global coverage, seamless roaming, flexible and scalable network configuration, high-rate multimedia service with guaranteed quality-of-service (QoS) satisfaction, and efficient radio spectrum utilization. Specifically, we will design effective and efficient resource management schemes, in terms of resource utilization and QoS provisioning, for future (the third generation [3G] and beyond) wireless communication networks. This goal will be achieved through research into the cross-layer design of effective and efficient resource allocation schemes, the development of user mobility estimation algorithms and effective handoff schemes, and the development of mathematical models for performance analysis of designed network protocols and algorithms. This work will lead to a solution for radio resource management in the wireless communication area and will be of significant benefit to both the telecommunications industry and telecommunications research. Through the program, we will continue training highly qualified personnel, who will conduct research on the latest developments of wireless communication networks and will emerge as expert additions to the Canadian high technology industry labour force.
