Post-secondary institutions across the world committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in their environment have been paired together to share insight and lessons learned.
The Dimensions program innovates by creating an international network of Athena SWAN and equality charters adopters and adapters. The 17 Canadian post-secondary institutions participating in the pilot have been paired with institutions from the UK or Ireland, and from Australia. These pairing groups will enable post-secondary institutions in four countries to share promising practices, and work collaboratively on the development of innovative solutions to common problems. This initiative positions the Canadian program as a prime promoter of EDI worldwide.
Dimensions: Equity, diversity and inclusion Canada is a pilot program aiming at increasing EDI in the research ecosystem. Launched in 2019, Dimensions is the Canadian adaptation of the UK’s program Athena SWAN. Ireland and Australia have also adapted the original Athena SWAN framework to local context and national priorities. The core elements are preserved across all approaches, in particular, for gender and intersectionality. Multiple post-secondary institutions in these four countries are now working on achieving their EDI goals guided by those programs.
