NSERC is pleased to announce that five Canadian research teams have recently been selected to work with international partners to address research challenges related to climate change and clean energy as part of the National Science Foundation Global Centres initiative.

This joint initiative between the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the US National Science Foundation (NSF), Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) encourages and supports international collaborative research on climate change and clean energy.

The international research centres being funded under this initiative provide unique opportunities for increased scope, scale, and flexibility and advance innovative, interdisciplinary, use-inspired research and education to address these complex and important societal priorities. Learn more about this announcement by visiting the NSF website.

“Working with leading global research funders to address climate change and clean energy challenges puts us in a position to better identify knowledge gaps and advance climate change science, a priority outlined in Canada's Climate Science 2050: Advancing Science and Knowledge on Climate Change (CS2050) report. The National Science Foundation Global Centres initiative provides students and researchers a platform to advance innovative and interdisciplinary research and gain education and training opportunities in world-class research while also enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility. We at NSERC look forward to seeing the outcomes of the work being done by some of Canada and the world’s best and brightest minds to tackle one of the biggest issues of our time.”
