Call for nominations for NSERC prizes

Nominations are now being accepted for the Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering, the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering, the NSERC John C. Polanyi Award, and the NSERC Donna Strickland Prize for Societal Impact of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research. The nomination deadline for all four prizes is April 1, 2022.

Release of the What We Heard report summarizing NSERC's consultation on its long-term strategic plan

A key milestone in the development of NSERC's next long-term strategic plan, the What We Heard report, summarizes the feedback received from stakeholders through workshops, focus groups, and online submissions. The consultation period that spanned from November 2021 to January 2022 was based on a series of 12 discussion papers on key issues of importance in the research funding landscape.

Government of Canada invests in talented graduate scholars and postdoctoral researchers

The Government of Canada announced that the three federal research granting agencies, NSERC, CIHR, and SSHRC, are providing $260 million for the latest cohort of scholarship and fellowship recipients.


Introducing the RCR Framework (2021)

NSERC, CIHR, and SSHRC are pleased to announce the release of the Tri-Agency Framework: Responsible Conduct of Research (2021). The RCR Framework (2021) replaces the 2016 version as the official responsible conduct of research policy of the three federal research funding agencies.


Canada Research Coordinating Committee releases 2020-21 progress report

The CRCC has released its 2020-21 progress report, Collective Response. The report illustrates how Canada's federal research funding organizations worked together to meet the challenges facing Canadians and Canada's research community due to the COVID-19 pandemic.


New and improved changes to the NSERC Synergy Awards call for nominations

The nomination period for NSERC's top research prizes is underway. This year brings some new and exciting changes to the Synergy Awards for Innovation nomination in an effort to be more flexible, inclusive, and to offer an even more appealing award to the merited recipients.

As of December 6, 2021, NSERC has consolidated its telephone numbers under its toll-free telephone number (1-855-275-2861), which serves as the new single point of entry for contacting all NSERC's programs. Please update your contact information as other dedicated program numbers are no longer in use.

NSERC Student Ambassadors and NSERC Young Innovators no longer accepting applications

As of March 1, 2022 at 8pm ET, the NSERC Student Ambassadors and NSERC Young Innovators funding opportunities will no longer be accepting applications. The 5-year pilots for both programs officially end March 31, 2022. Funding requests in support of science and engineering competitions for youth may be eligible through the PromoScience funding opportunity.
