On July 30, 2024, Canada’s federal granting agencies published the What We Heard Report, summarizing the main ideas that emerged from the engagement activities conducted with members of the research community and partners with regards to the review of the Tri-agency Open Access (OA) Policy on Publications. The agencies will draft a revised OA Policy, based on the consultation feedback received to date and future. The new Policy will be published by the end of 2025.
Applied Research Tools and Instruments grants support the purchase of applied research equipment to foster and enhance the capacity of colleges to undertake applied research projects in partnership with industry, public, not-for-profit and health organizations within their community and to provide training opportunities for college students. Applications must be submitted by November 20, 2024 before 8:00 pm (Eastern Time).
The first pilot for the Data Management Plan requirement of the Tri-agency Research Data Management Policy was introduced in the Subatomic Physics Discovery Grants program in August 2023. This pilot has been extended to the fall 2024 Subatomic Physics Discovery Grants program.
The new policy’s intent is to provide assurance that federally-funded programs, funding opportunities, and/or appointments intended for Indigenous people are held by Indigenous people. The policy and directive follow the What We Heard report, published in January 2024, that focuses on a series of engagements with Indigenous Peoples held by the three federal research funding agencies on promising practices for Indigenous citizenship and membership affirmation.
The CRCC has released its annual progress summary. The summary illustrates how Canada’s federal research funding agencies, in cooperation with other CRCC member organizations, have developed and aligned innovative new policies and programs in the pursuit of shared committee priorities, as they have done since 2018.

NSERC Awards for Science Promotion recognize outstanding contributions to science promotion in Canada. This year’s group award goes to Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science, and Technology (WISEST) at the University of Alberta.
