The College and Community Innovation program introduces the new Mobilize grants

General news Professors Students

December 1, 2021

We are pleased to introduce Mobilize grants, a new opportunity available through the Tri-agency College and Community Innovation (CCI) program, managed by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, in collaboration with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

The CCI program has been redesigned to simplify, streamline and address the changing dynamics of applied research in colleges and communities across Canada. By consolidating fourteen streams to five, the simplified suite of grants aims to increase connectivity within the research and innovation ecosystem by exploring new ways to continue to develop tri-agency collaboration, expand the range of partner organizations and create more training opportunities for college students.

Thanks to invaluable input and consultations with the community, the new Mobilize grants were designed to be more flexible and to accommodate the diverse and unique needs of distinct colleges—whether large or small, urban or rural, and with established or developing research programs. They will provide Canadian colleges with long-term funding that can be applied to single, multiple or institution-wide college applied research programs, in the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities and health sciences, to enable the college to allocate resources where they are needed the most.

Whether a college is establishing a new applied research program, enhancing an existing program, or undertaking a number of short, time-critical applied research projects, Mobilize will allow a college to take a strategic and systematic approach in determining the types of resources to be deployed to maximize student training and innovation impacts for its partners. Additionally, a key feature of the Mobilize grants is to further strengthen links with new and existing research partners and other government funded innovation support providers in an effort to foster research collaborations between Canadian colleges, universities, business, health and not-for-profit organizations.

The application deadline is April 14, 2022. Please read the program description for more information.

“Colleges, CEGEPs and polytechnics are at the forefront of applied research in local communities across Canada, and provide tremendous contributions to our research and innovation ecosystem. Mobilize grants will further establish colleges’ position in that ecosystem by enhancing our country’s world-class research capacity, working with a broader set of partners to boost Canadian innovation, and training our next generation of researchers and entrepreneurs.”
- Alejandro Adem, President, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada
