Program news

May 29, 2020

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is pleased to announce funding for 86 individual science promotion and outreach programs that engage and inspire young Canadians to develop their skills and curiosity through science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

This investment of over $9 million through NSERC’s PromoScience program will  support hands-on learning experiences that inspire the next generation of scientists and research leaders. Grant recipients will lead camps, classroom workshops, makerspaces, online learning programs and more. Young Canadians in communities across the country will have access to innovative STEM programs that expose them to new skills and inspire them to follow their dreams and become the successful entrepreneurs, coders, clean tech inventors and discoverers of tomorrow.

“The global COVID-19 pandemic is showing that science and engineering will play an important role for our future well-being and prosperity. Fostering an appreciation for science, technology, engineering and mathematics in young Canadians today will increase the number of students who pursue careers in STEM fields tomorrow, ensuring that our country never runs out of skilled and knowledgeable innovators and problem solvers who can improve the lives of all Canadians.”

Alejandro Adem, President, NSERC
