The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Nature et technologies sector (FRQ) are launching the competition for the Chairs for Inclusion in Science and Engineering (CISE) program in the province of Quebec.

The CISE program builds on the successful Chairs for Women in Science and Engineering (CWSE) program, continuing to promote the participation and retention of women in science and engineering while expanding to further address issues faced by a broader range of underrepresented groups. With this program, NSERC and FRQ will fund a team of three CISE Chairs at multiple universities in the province of Quebec coordinating their efforts to enhance the impact of the program and to celebrate diverse role models. The CISE program currently supports a team of three chairs in the Atlantic region.

Underrepresented groups include, but are not limited to, women, Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit and Métis), persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities/racialized groups and members of 2SLGBTQI+ communities. Intersectionality among these groups as well as with other dimensions must also be considered.

The CISE program is an important initiative to foster a culture of inclusion in the research ecosystem and directly responds to the need to address barriers and inequities that limit the full participation of all talented individuals.
