Program news
June 14, 2024
Today, Yasir Naqvi, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Ryan Turnbull, Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry announced funding for 44 science promotion and outreach programs that engage and inspire young Canadians to develop their skills and curiosity through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
This investment of over $10 million through NSERC’s PromoScience program will support hands-on learning experiences that inspire the next generation of scientists and research leaders. Grant recipients will lead camps, classroom workshops, online learning programs, and more. Young Canadians in communities across the country, including girls, underserved rural communities, and indigenous students will have access to innovative STEM programs that will expose them to new skills and inspire them to become the successful entrepreneurs, coders, clean tech inventors and discoverers of tomorrow.
Engaging youth in STEM ensures that we provide future generations with the valuable skills to help them be successful in facing 21st-century challenges. When exposed to STEM, youth develop important problem-solving and critical thinking skills, while also building a solid foundation for science literacy.
