To equip Canada’s next generation of researchers with the skills and experiences they need, the Government of Canada is investing $26.4 million in 2025 through the Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program. This funding will support 16 innovative training programs, each receiving up to $1.65 million over six years to help transition new researchers from trainees to productive employees in the Canadian workforce.
The CREATE program is a powerful engine driving the next generation of Canadian research talent by enhancing training and mentoring to equip emerging researchers with the essential technical and professional skills needed to thrive across Canada’s most critical sectors. It fosters collaboration and offers rich mentoring and mobility opportunities that prepare researchers to excel in diverse research environments. CREATE supports innovation in the natural sciences and engineering (NSE) and connects NSE with health, social science and humanities fields championed by Canada’s other key federal granting agencies.
This year, funded initiatives include Boost-MedTech at École Polytechnique de Montréal, which focuses on building skills for future medical technology innovators, and the Canada’s Life cycle for Existing and Advanced Nuclear (CLEAN) project at the University of New Brunswick, aimed at providing professionals with experience and training in the safety, evolution and reliability of nuclear technologies.
