New funding opportunity to advance research on avian influenza in Canada

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and partners are pleased to announce the launch of the Team Grants: Supporting Interdisciplinary Research on Avian Influenza funding opportunity.

With recent outbreaks of the H5N1 subtype detected in wild birds, domestic poultry, mammals, and sporadic human cases, the initiative will support multi-year, interdisciplinary research to generate timely evidence and mobilize knowledge across human, animal, and environmental sectors. By integrating diverse approaches, including local, First Nations, Inuit and Métis Knowledges, the funding will help decision-makers and communities better prevent and respond to avian influenza outbreaks in Canada.

Closing date: October 2 

Funds available: $4.5 M 

Partners include the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies, the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and Michael Smith Health Research BC. 

Priority research areas span multiple disciplines and sectors.
