Institut national de la recherche scientifique's Tiago Falk specializes in signal processing and machine learning, aiming to revolutionize real-time monitoring of cognitive states through wearable technology. He collaborates closely with industry partner Thales and cognitive psychologist Professor Sébastien Tremblay from Université Laval to tackle challenges like sensor noise and individual variability to develop robust cognitive AI models.
This decade-long partnership has yielded three influential open-source databases, downloaded globally over 11,000 times, crucial for positioning Thales and its partners as leaders in the AI research domain. The data has been used to develop cognitive AI models that enhance the understanding of stress, mental workload, and fatigue. Practical applications span diverse sectors: aiding police training in stress management, monitoring astronaut health for deep-space missions, and refining transportation safety in Japan.
Falk and Tremblay's research exemplifies interdisciplinary synergy driving impactful innovations in cognitive science and technology integration. Their work promises broader societal benefits, fostering safer and more efficient operations across various fields.
