Summary

Industrial researcher and professor Michèle Prévost is an expert in the treatment and distribution of drinking water. From 2015-2020, Dr. Prévost will lead industrial research under this Chair, focusing on risk characterization and water source protection, particularly the real-time detection of contaminants the development of models to analyze vulnerability tailored to intake structures in dense urban environments. This work will have a significant impact on the implementation of protection plans for drinking water source in Canada. Dr. Prévost will also lead work on the quality of drinking water in large buildings and water distribution systems, specifically responding to system and large building contamination, quantifying the impacts of network sectorization, and controlling corrosion. The proposed research activities are an extension of the Chair’s existing work (corrosion, lead and network sectorization) and meet important emerging needs in terms of microbiological (legionella) and accidental (oil spills) contamination.

The Chair’s research is well-recognized, along with Dr. Prévost’s involvement in numerous regional, national and international committees and her leadership role in nationwide research initiatives. She received the A.P. Black Award from the American Water Works Association in 2016 in recognition of the significant contribution her research has made to the North American drinking water industry. Dr. Prévost is author of 140 articles and 11 book chapters on drinking water treatment and distribution, and has presented at more than 400 conferences
