NSERC hosted the Prime Minister’s Science Fair

On April 6, 2021, NSERC hosted the Prime Minister’s Science Fair featuring the Right Honourable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.

The top three prize winners from the 2019 Canada Wide Science Fair were invited to the virtual event to present their research projects, followed by a question period with the Prime Minister and Minister Champagne.

Other speakers included NSERC President Alejandro Adem and Chief Science Advisor Mona Nemer, who brought greetings and introduced three of Canada’s top young scientists:

  • Bhavya Mohan, winner of the Best Project Award, who is using aptamers to make immunotherapy treatments for cancer patients cheaper and more effective
  • Manning Whitby, winner of the Best Senior Project Award, who is developing wearable technology for blind and low vision communities
  • Islay Graham, winner of the Best Junior Project Award, who conducted research on the effects of beach maintenance on Great Lakes Piping Plovers
